Convenient features in the cottage

We wanted our cottage to be nice, cosy and make our stays and your stays easy. Here are a few of the touches we think you might appreciate.

We have built-in USB chargers, so all you need is your charging cable. New for 2025, we have recently updated to a USB-C point too.

The slow cooker is perfect for tasty meals waiting for you when you get back from a day's fun. There's a microwave too for a quick zap

The TV is equipped with Chromecast, so you can pick up what you were watching at home, straight from the app on your smartphone to the TV. And with fibre broadband you should have nice smooth viewing.

You can play both Blu-ray or DVDs (sorry no 4k!) and there's a wide selection of DVDs at the cottage too, with something to cover most tastes.

Fancy some music while you cook, or eat? The dining room has a Bluetooth-equipped stereo so you can play your favourite music from your phone or tablet. Or bring your CDs!!!

The cottage has a washing machine and garden and indoor drying line/rack.

We have a decent-sized frost-free fridge-freezer, Tesco and Lidl are a short walk away. Help yourself to anything left in the freezer.

The enclosed garden is well equipped with a picnic bench and BBQ, plus a selection of beach toys in the storage you're welcome to borrow (plus there's a beach toy library at the lifeboat station too).

Caister is very well served for pubs, fish and chips, as well as other takeaways.

How to find us & parking

Fisherman's Stroll is located in a small terrace of 10 cottages built in 1885 in old Caister.  The terrace is tucked away off the mainYarmouth Road, only 10 minutes from the beach.

Directions
From Cambridge - take A14 east - once past Newmarket, join the left-hand lane onto the A11. Follow signs to Norwich.

At large roundabout junction with A47 south of Norwich, get in right hand lane and take A47 following signs to Great Yarmouth (3rd exit). Follow signs for Great Yamouth (1st exit at Brundall/Blofield roundabout). At Acle roundabout, instead of signs for Great Yarmouth, take signs for left hand lane straight ahead, for The Broads and Caister (A1064).

Follow signs until reaching Caister bypass (after a short patch of dual carriageway), go straight ahead over bypass. Follow the road over junction at Lidl, then over 3 mini roundabouts. Jubilee Terrace is a narrow entrance quite soon after Mullen Cycles on the left. It is hard to see the entrance on road until almost on it, but is on the left and opposite Adele Place (green street sign) and just next to house with high evergreen hedges.

(If you are coming from Great Yarmouth instead of from Cambridge/Norwich, then it is shortly after the East Coast Hospice charity shop which will also be on the right of you.)

Pedestrian cut through
Parking
On arrival, you may drive down the pedestrian track (Jubilee Terrace) to offload. We typically turn down St Julian's Road and park round the back in Links Close (see map below).  You can cut through the pedestrian gap by the 1885 owl sign.

There is also usually parking available along the main Yarmouth Road or St Julian's Road.

Things to do with kids

Pettitts Animal Adventure Park

We chose this part of Norfolk for easy access to many things to do with kids nearby. Here are some things we've enjoyed, but check out what's happening during your stay.

Caister

Kids can explore and dress up on the Caister lifeboat at the Lifeboat museum (check for opening times) It's free but the lifeboat service is not RNLI and relies on donations to keep running. Following recent fundraising, the centre is developing to accommodate a cafĂ© as well as replacing the older boat.

The freedom of the lovely unspoilt beach at Caister does something wonderful to the kids. They launch into squabble-free projects together and go home happy and chilled out. Can't recommend it enough and only 5 mins' walk from the cottage...

Playground - at nearby King George VI recreation ground (Allendale Rd). There are swings, climbing frames a zipwire and an outdoor gym as well as the Rabbit Hutch cafĂ©.

Caister Roman Fort ruins. The Caister ruins are a short 15 min walk from the cottage - the foundations of a roman fort which would have overlooked and protected waterways into Norfolk from invaders.

Burgh Castle You can find out more about the coastal network of islands and the very different geography of this area back in Roman times, with a trip to nearby Burgh Castle ruins which are one of the best preserved Roman fortifications in the UK.

Overlooking the Yare there are some very interesting visitor signs there showing the very different coastline then. Take a walk from there to the Fisherman's Inn or along the boardwalks on the river. (Great place for dogs and kids to explore).

Hemsby

Crow's Nest, Hemsby

Hemsby (just outside Caister) has plenty of amusements, slides, bumper cars, karting, candy floss and other seaside attractions.

We've enjoyed the Crow's Nest High Ropes climbing frame at Richardson's Holiday Centre and the karting tracks.

Hirsty's, Hemsby

Hirsty's Maize Maze is also nearby as you enter Hemsby.

Great Yarmouth

(Other swimming: The Phoenix Pool and Gym and California Cliffs Holiday Park in Scratby also have pools.)

The Arc Cinema in Great Yarmouth has 5 screens.

The refurbished Victorian Venetian Waterways and gardens has boat and pedalo hire. You can see more here.

Yucky Yarns - a guided walk for all the family to learn about horrendous history in Great Yarmouth. Gory stories and ghastly goings on with pirates, graveyard antics and secret chests!

Gorleston

Gorleston splashpad near Great Yarmouth is a fun wet play area for children with fountain sprays, jet streams and buckets of tipping water all set within an ocean themed play area featuring a sail boat, seaweed and starfish.

Crabbing. You can fish for crabs at Gorleston pier or at the Fisherman's Inn at Burgh Castle - or further afield, Cromer and Southwold/Walberswick are famous for it. Walberswick even hosts the Crabbing Championships! Tips: Bacon works well as bait for your crabbing line and a crab basket makes it quite a lot less challenging...

Somerton (nr Winterton) The East Somerton church ruins, which you can visit on this walk was reputedly destroyed by a witch - the local legend is that the villagers buried her under the church and the oak tree grew from her wooden leg and wrecked the church!

For fans of "The Greatest Showman" film - the 7ft 8in Norfolk Giant from PT Barnum's circus is buried at the nearby (and quaintly thatched) St Mary's Church in West Somerton.
