Beaches

Caister beach

There's a fairly quiet sandy beach just a short walk away from the cottage, or you're spoilt for choice at the local resorts:

Winterton-on-Sea is also fairly quiet most of the time although we've noticed an uptick, or if you like more people and amusements there's Hemsby and Great Yarmouth and the renowned beach at Gorleston.  Nearby Scratby  has steps down to a beach and is somewhere in between for busyness.

Winterton dunes
Winterton (15min) is one of our favourite places in the world - as well as often quiet sandy beaches, there are acres and acres of beautiful grassy dunes surrounding this unspoilt village that you can let children run around in, often with no one else for miles.

Seals at Horsey

A little further on (20 min from Caister) there's Horsey beach.  Go at low tide and you can most of the time enjoy the magic of a seal colony on a sand bank up close (signs ask you not to go too close though).

Gorleston beach can be busy in the height of summer, but there's a great spot for crabbing on the concrete pier.
